822,155. Compressors ; reciprocating pumps. MEGATOR PUMPS & COMPRESSORS Ltd., and McCOMBIE, F. W. Dec. 10, 1957 [Dec. 13, 1956], No. 38123/56. Classes 8(1) and 102(1). [Also in Group XXIX] In a compressor or a pump for liquids comprising at least one piston 6, Fig. 2, reciprocated within an associated cylinder 7 by an eccentric 3 secured to a driven shaft 1 and connected to the piston by a link 5 and wherein the cylinder 7 is reciprocated over a valve plate 8 so as to register with inlet and outlet ports 9, 10 alternately, the link 5 is also secured to a second eccentric 4 at the same angle as eccentric 3 but secured to a second shaft 2 parallel to and capable of rotation in the same direction as shaft 1. As shown in Fig. 1 three pairs of eccentrics differing in phase by 120 degrees are spaced axially along shafts 1, 2 and each associated link 5 is integral with diametrically opposed pistons. Prevention of rotation of each cylinder about its axis is effected by guide pins 15 engaging cylinder slots 16 and sealing engagement between the cylinders and valve plates is effected initially by abutment of cylinder extensions 17 against the shaft 1 and then by the pressure exerted by the compressed gas which is stored in an accumulator 21 above liquid 22. e.g., water in which the compressor is submerged and which serves to effect lubrieation; the pistons and cylinders being of plastic material.
