820,393. Cycle pedals. CAMPAGNOLO, T. May 16, 1957 [May 16, 1956; Aug. 21, 1956: Feb. 7, 1957], No. 15640/57. Class 136(2) In a cycle pedal of the type comprising a foot-supporting shell 7 with a toe-clip 11 and a foot-retaining strap 8, the shell being connected by means of bars 5 to a hub 4 rotatably mounted on a spindle 1 fixed to the crank by a threaded end, the bars 5 are made in one piece with the hub, preferably of aluminium, and are connected by shrinking and riveting to the shell, which is made of forged and hardened steel and is provided at its two ends with guide elements 9, 10 formed in such manner that the two projecting strap ends are held substantially vertical. Each arm 5 terminates in two projections 6 in the form of rivets (Fig. 3) which are introduced into transverse holes 'in the shell 7. The two strap-guiding elements consist of a lug 9 and a ring 10. (Fig. 2). As shown in Fig. 5 a pointed element 16 projects from the rear of the shell so that the cyclist can easily apply the sole of his foot to this element 16 when the pedal is free, so as to position the toe-clip around his foot by rotation of the pedal. An opening 16, Fig. 6 (not shown) is provided in the element 16 to reduce its weight. The element may be integral with the pedal or fitted as a separate part. There may be more than one projection.
