Abstract

817,690. Collapsible boxes. WHEELING STEEL CORPORATION. May 1, 1956 [July 1, 1955], No. 13366/56. Class 18. [Also in Group XXX] The top 2, Fig. 1, of a box pallet or box is drawn from metal or plastic sheet and has downwardly dished' areas 18 which receive the feet 19 of the bottom of a similar box in a stack so that the sheet material of the dished areas is loaded in tension. As illustrated the top 2 is formed with strengthening ribs 5, with a turned over edge 31, Fig. 2, and with a peripheral channel 6 shaped to take over the rolled ever edges 11 of the sides 7 of the container or over channel-section members (not shown) fitted over the rolled over edges 11. The sides 7 are also drawn from sheet and are formed at the corners with portions 8 which can be fitted together as shown in Fig. 4 before a tube 9 is slid over them to secure the walls together. Embossings 20, Fig. 9, formed in the sides 7 contain reverse embossings 21, and slits 10 are cut to receive belly bands. L-shaped brackets 22, Fig. 1, welded to the sides 7 take into slots 26, Fig. 3, in the walls of a peripheral channel 6 in the drawn sheet base 4. Specification 807,571 is referred to.
