Abstract

484,727. Packages; boxes. GROVESEND STEEL & TINPLATE CO., Ltd., and CLARKE, E. J. Nov. 26, 1936, No. 32417. [Classes 18 and 94 (i)] Tin plates and like sheet metal are packed in a container comprising a stillage and a bottomless box-like cover, internally reinforced with sheet metal. The sheets may be first enclosed in a package 2, the base of which is placed on the stillage 3, and when the pile is of the required height, the flaps 4, 5 are folded up to encompass the sides. A cover 1 is then applied, consisting of a bottomless, four-sided, fibre board structure having flaps 12, 13 at the top edges, and reinforced inside and out at the vertical edges by fibre corner pieces 6, 7 stapled at 8. Metal angle-section strips 9 are inserted in the pockets formed by the strips 6 and the corners of the cover. In the Figure, three strips are shown partly inserted. The tops are turned over at 14 to form a support for a metal sheet 16, upon which the flaps 12, 13 are folded down. The corner members 6 may also support sheet-metal shields 11, shown nearly fully inserted. The cover and stillage are then secured by binders.
