[Also in Group XXXVII] A temperature-controlled heating device suitable for heating a vessel 20 comprises a sealed container 1 containing a heater 15 immersed in water and connected to a chamber containing pressure-actuable bellows 3. At a predetermined temperature the increase in pressure in the container 1 is sufficient to collapse the bellows to move a rod 4 and tilt a lever 5 carrying a mercury switch 14 and so break the heater circuit. The temperature is adjusted by means of biasing springs 9, 10 acting on the ends of the lever 5 and connected to a rotatable shaft 11. The bellows may be replaced by a diaphragm or a Bourdon tube.
