Abstract
816,406. Filters. WIPAC DEVELOPMENT Ltd. Oct. 17, 1957 [Aug. 28, 1956], No. 26315/56. Class 46. A filter unit consists of a filtering element the ends of which are sealed in caps in the form of shallow trays or annular troughs, the peripheral wall of each cap, or at least the outer wall or each peripheral cap when the cap is in the form of an annular trough, being bent inwardly towards the filtering element to improve the adhesion of the cap to the filtering element. An annular pleated paper filter element 10 is assembled between two perforated hollow cylinders 12 (one not shown) and each end of the assembly is positioned centrally in an annular end cap (one being shown at 13). A liquid thermosetting resin 19 (preferably of phenol-formaldehyde type) is then run into the cap and the outer wall 15 of the cap is bent inwardly towards the assembly by a rolling operation, performed before or during heathardening of the resin. Other adhesives may be used. The inner wall ofeach cap may be similarly treated. The caps may be aluminium. In Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown), an annular gasket or like member at each end of the unit is retained circumferentially by an annular bead formed on the respective end cap.
