810,780. Photographic emulsions. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN N. V. March 20, 1956 [March 21, 1955], No. 8655/56. Class 98(2) A silver halide emulsion in a watersoluble bending agent such as gelatine or polyvinyl alcohol is dispersed in a solution of water-insoluble water-permeable polyvinyl butyracetal in a non-water-miscible solvent and the resulting dispersion is coated on a support. The procedure follows that of Specifications 718,404, 750,201 and 786,274 which use cellulose ether or other polymeric material instead of polyvinyl butyracetal. The dispersion is easily coated and dried and layers thereof are used normally, but a water-soluble solvent such as 5 to 25 per cent of alcohol may be added to the treating baths to increase permeability thereof. Examples are directed to (1) a normal emulsion which is exposed, metol-hydroquinone developed and fixed; (2) a multilayer colour film of conventional sequence; (3) a mixed red and green sensitive layer with overcoated blue sensitive layer; (4) a three-mixed layer, and (5) a material as of examples 2-4 without couplers for sequential exposure and development procedures.
