Abstract
808,584. Endless chain conveyers. REIST, W. July 19, 1956 [July 22, 1955; Jan. 19, 1956], No. 22371/56. Class 78 (1). A conveyer for newspapers and like flexible articles comprises an endless chain 1, 2 having transversely extending supports 9 for the papers &c. secured thereto, each support having clamps 12 at each end for gripping an article 19 and a bent-up central part 20 at the middle for imparting curvature to it. Each clamp is urged against the support by coil springs and has an arm 14 which carries a roller 15. At the feeding and discharge points guide rails 16 are provided on to which the rollers 15 run to open the clamps. Conveyer belts 17 are provided at these points to bring the articles to the main conveyer or to take them away therefrom. In a modification each support is a single rod 21, Fig. 4, and the clamp consists of rubber sleeves 23, 24 slipped over the ends of a fixed pin 22 and a, pivoted member 25, respectively. A spring urges the sleeve 24 towards the sleeve 23 and the end 27 of the member 25 coacts with guide rails in the same way as the rollers 15, Fig. 1. In a further modification, Fig. 5, the chain 31, 32 is attached to the support above its central part 35 and has a channel section rail 36 of elastic material on either side of it. These rails are attached to the outer links 32 and the support 35. A member 37 depending from the support 35 carries rollers 38, 39, 40 which travel on a guide rail 41. Lateral members 43 secured to the support 35 have members 44 slidably mounted on their undersides. Each member is connected by a spring 45 to a member 43 and passes between two rollers 47. Each carries also a roller 48 which engages a guide rail at the supply and delivery points. The forked end 49 of each member 44 carries a roller 50 which engages a slot 51 in a clamping jaw 52. This jaw is pivoted at 53 and carries a ball 54 of elastic material, e.g. rubber, which urges the articles against a rail 55 of similar material.
