Abstract
816,116. Handling and stripping bobbins &c. TERREL MACHINE CO. July 10, 1956 [March 26, 1956], No. 21393/56. Class 120(3) [Also in Group XXX] In a bobbin-stripping machine, the spurt bobbins are propelled and guided in succession along a path by elements which move along each side of that path, said elements being resiliently urged together to grip bobbin heads therebetween by means carried by frame members that straddle the path of the bobbins, the frame members being free for movement transversely to the path so that the elements are selfcentering relative to the guiding means for the bobbins. As shown, an inclined feed structure 14 (not shown) supplies spent bobbins to a guide rail arrangement which supports the bobbins serially in hanging relation for feeding them past the stripping means which may be as set forth in Specification 508,480, by endless belts 18, 18<SP>1</SP>, trained over idler pulleys 20, 20<SP>1</SP> and drive pulleys 22, 22<SP>1</SP>. The guide rail arrangement comprises a pair of guide rails 24, 24<SP>1</SP>, the rail 24<SP>1</SP> being arranged for lateral adjustment to vary the spacing between the adjacent edges of the rails 24, 24<SP>1</SP>. The adjustment is effected by manipulation of handgrips 30 (Fig. 2). In order to maintain the bobbins properly seated on the rails 24, 24<SP>1</SP>, a hold-down bar 36 is suspended from supports 38. The endless belts 18, 18<SP>1</SP> present adjacent reaches above the rails 24, 24<SP>9</SP> for laterally gripping the heads of the bobbins, and provision for maintaining the lateral gripping action of the adjacent reaches of the belts 18, 18<SP>1</SP> is arranged through pressure bars 44, 44<SP>1</SP>. These bars are mounted on a plurality of arch members 46 proportioned to straddle the adjacent reaches of belts 18, 18<SP>1</SP> and support the bars 44, 44<SP>1</SP> in backing relation thereto. Each arch member 46 has one leg to which is fixed one of the bars. The other bar is shiftably supported by the other leg of each arch member 46. A spring 56 urges the bar 44<SP>1</SP> towards the bar 44. The arch members 46 have considerable latitude for shifting laterally with respect to the rails 24, 24<SP>1</SP> and the belts 18, 18<SP>1</SP> are thereby made selfcentering in relation to the rails 24, 24<SP>1</SP>. The idler pulleys 20, 20<SP>1</SP> are mounted at the entrance end of the belts and are each fitted with hoop elements 60, 60<SP>1</SP> of oversize internal diameter for riding on the pulleys 20, 20<SP>1</SP>eccentrically between the belts 18, 18<SP>1</SP> and pulleys 20, 20<SP>1</SP> respectively. With this arrangement the adjacent reaches of the belts 18, 18<SP>1</SP> are rendered laterally yieldable adjacent their entrance ends and may initially be set closer than the spacing at which they will run when feeding bobbins therebetween, so that in the absence of bobbins therebetween they will spring together and act to pick up bobbins subsequently supplied from the shoot 14 (not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 508,480.
