Abstract

805,436. Wringers. CHAMBERLAIN CORPORATION. Nov. 8, 1956, No. 34174/56. Class 138 (2). In a wringer comprising a frame and an upper roll 22 arranged to be readily movable to a position of disengagement from a lower roll 21, one end 52 of the lower roll and the opposite end 74 of the upper roll are resiliently supported (at 90 and 80 respectively), the other ends of both lower and upper rolls being provided with supports having fixed positions 29, 53 with respect to the frame when the rolls are in engagement. Furthermore one end of the upper roll is supported by a member 29 connected by a first link 31 to the frame 32 and the first link is pivotally connected to a reset member 34 connected to the frame by a second link 36, the axes of the pivotal connections between the second link and the frame 38 and between the reset member and the first and second links 35, 37 respectively being in an over-centre locking relationship when the rolls are in engagement (Fig. 11). In Fig. 5 the rolls are shown disengaged, the wringer being supported, e.g. on a washing machine, by a head 28 which may also house the drive to the lower roll 21. With the rolls in contact (pivot 81 is then below pivot 66), pressing member 34 against the frame part 24 to the over-centre position (Fig. 11) " locks " the rolls in engaged position ; the pressure between the rolls being determined by the leverage exerted by member 34 and the resilience of the springs 70, 83, &c. At the right-hand end (Figs. 8, 9) the upper roll is carried in a bushing 80 pivotally connected at 81 to link 33, the other end of which is pivoted at 66 and carries spring retainers 64, 65 attached to bolts 67, 68 with surrounding springs 70, 71 which rest against the framework 69. The lower roll rests in a fixed bearing block 53. At the left-hand end (Fig. 11) the lower roll is carried in the spring- supported saddle block 90, 91; the upper roll bears in a bushing 78 pivotally connected at 79 to the link 31. A safety pressure-release device comprises bars 39 supported and pivoted about the axis of the upper roll by hinges 42, 43. The hinge 42 has legs 44 on either side of the roll which upon depression or raising of either bar 39 engage projecting arms 45 integral with and on each side of the reset member 34 to turn the latter outwardly and clockwise (as seen in Fig. 2) so releasing it from its over-centre locking position. An extension handle 47 (Figs. 2-4, not shown) is provided on the reset member 34.
