Abstract

840,316. Animal holding appliances. LODDON ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. March 1, 1957 [Oct. 24, 1956], No. 32469/56. Class 81 (2). An animal cage has a yoke comprising pivotal upright yoke bars, an operating handle connected by lever and link mechanism to one bar and a further lever and link mechanism interconnecting the bars, so that when the handle is operated to move the bar to which it is connected, the motion is transmitted to the other bar to open or close the yoke. A frame 4 is fixed to one end of a cage comprising inverted U-shaped members 1 and cross-bars 2, 3. Bars 6 forming a yoke are hinged on spaced pivots 15 at their lower ends and are connected at their upper ends by links 8 to a lever 9 pivoted on the frame 4. An operating handle 12 connected to a second lever 11 pivoted on the frame is linked to the middle portion of one bar 6 to form a toggle. The bars 6 are moved towards one another by downward movement of the handle and released by upward movement of the handle, the movement being transmitted from the bar linked to the handle by the link and lever mechanism connecting the upper ends of the bars. The bars move between parallel guides 7 secured to the frame. Springs 14 connecting the bars and the frame provide a quickrelease action when the handle is operated to open the yoke. The bars may have a common pivot at their lower ends or one bar may be adjustably pivoted on the other bar. The frame may be dispensed with and the yoke and its operating mechanism mounted on the front part of the cage. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 738,971.
