Abstract

Artificial filaments and the like are produced by spinning viscose having a NaOH content of not more than 6 per cent in a spinning bath containing sulphuric acid and zinc sulphate in a ratio of 1.2:1 to 0.8:1, in addition to 17-19 per cent of sodium sulphate, the absolute concentration of the sulphuric acid being between 4.5 and 6 per cent. Viscoses having gamma values between 40 and 46 can be spun. The filaments may be stretched, after travelling a short distance in air, in a hot diluted acid bath by at least 85 per cent.
