Abstract

797,840. Hydraulically actuated diaphragm pumps. DISTILLERS CO., Ltd. June 26, 1956 [July 13, 1955], No. 20223/55. Class 102(1). A pump for pumping liquids, e.g., liquid CO 2 comprises a diaphragm pump 4 having inlet and outlet valves 5, 6, the diaphragm being actuated by liquid pressure generated by a reciprocating piston 1 in a cylinder connected to a reservoir 8 through a non-return valve 11 and an adjustable pressure relief valve 7. The actuating liquid is cooled by means of a cooling coil 10 disposed in the reservoir 8 or the connection between the diaphragm pump 4 and the piston 1 is surrounded by a cooler 2 ; alternatively the portion of the pump containing hydraulic medium may be surrounded by a jacket through which coolant circulates.
