Abstract

793,193. Resonators. PYE, Ltd. Feb. 17, 1956 [Feb. 17, 1955], No. 4786/55. Class 13. [Also in Group XXXIX] A loud-speaker cabinet encloses two or more Helmholtz resonators tuned to the resonant frequency of the loud-speaker unit with the acoustic capacitance of the air inside the cabinet or to a frequency slightly removed from that resonant frequency. The cabinet is divided into chambers A, B, C, D, E, the floor 5 of chamber A sloping as shown in Fig. 1 to avoid the setting up of standing waves. Aperture 6a resonates with chamber A to reduce the amplitude of resonance of the speaker unit with chambers A and B. Apertures 8 in the front panel resonate with chamber C as a subsidiary reflex system to reduce the amplitude of resonance of the speaker unit with main port apertures 7a. An amplifier may be housed in space D and a crossover network in E, or D and E may be omitted. The resonant chambers A, B, C may be lined with sound-absorbent material.
