Abstract

788,893. Drying hops. BINDER, J. March 21, 1956 [March 21, 1955], No. 8841/56. Class 34(2) Hops &c. to be dried are conveyed from a feed hopper 1 through a preheating space 9 to the uppermost of a series of superposed conveyers by which they are carried to and fro through the drying chamber which is supplied with warm air by fans spaced along the length of the back of the chamber and connected to nozzles disposed beneath the lowermost conveyer and having vanes 10, Figs. 2, 3. for distributing the air uniformly across the width of the chamber and in an upward direction. The dried hops are discharged from the end 12 of the lowermost conveyer through a shoot 5 projecting through the side of an extension 4 of the drying chamber. A part of the warm air is exhausted from the upper part of the chamber by a.fan 6 while the remainder is recirculated by fans 15 connected to nozzles in the chamber. The hops are cooled prior to discharge by atmospheric air drawn down through the end 12 of the lowermost conveyer on to scoop 11a at the end of a duct 11 connected to the lefthand fan 15.
