Abstract

787,453. Container closures. K.A.C., Ltd. Aug. 17, 1954 [Aug. 24, 1953 ; Nov. 30, 1953], Nos. 23338/53 and 33214/53. Class 125(3). A closure for containers or inspection openings &c. comprises a cylindrical housing 1 with a flange 2 by which it is secured to the container and an inwardly directed annular flange 5 terminating in a channel 6 containing a resilient annular sealing member 7 which is engaged by a circular diaphragm 8 carried rotatably on a pin 9 fixed in a carrier 10 having bayonet slots 15 which engage pins 14 in the wall of housing 1. The carrier 10 may be turned by means of a finger bar 18 but to provide a flush finish a cover plate 19 movable axially and urged upwardly by a spring 23 is provided. A washer 13 prevents loss of liquid around pin 9 and the housing may have a drain 24. A chain 25 prevents loss of the carrier. In a modification, Fig. 6, the ring 7 and diaphragm 8 are replaced by a resilient disc 38 which seats on a flange 35 of the housing and in a further modification, Fig. 8, the flange 35 has a sealing channel 66.
