Abstract
786,858. Clamps for fork lift trucks. SHARP, J. R., KAYE, E., and ARNOT, A. E. R. Dec. 21, 1955 [Dec. 24, 1954], No. 37346/54. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4). Release of the load-engaging clamp 16 of a lift truck is prevented by the force needed to keep the load in the lifted position. As illustrated the pressure in the lifting ram 15 is conveyed to a relay valve 56 where it moves a plunger 58 against a biasing spring 59 to close the conduit 55 leading from the ram 17 operating the clamp 16. The lifting ram 15 is controlled by a pair of coupled valves 31, 35 controlled by a handle 37 and connecting the ram to a pump 21 or to the reservoir 23. Two similar pairs of valves 47, 48 are controlled by a single handle 46 to deliver liquid to the double-acting clamping ram 17. A relief valve 52 limits the pressure of the clamp on the load. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown) the relay piston 58 serves to open contacts in the circuit of solenoids operating valves controlling the clamping ram 17.
