Abstract
A granulated welding composition for use as an arc shielding medium contains, by weight, silica, 15-28 per cent, titania 17-35 per cent, manganese oxide (Mno) 40-50 per cent, alumina up to 7.5 per cent, calcium fluoride up to 5 per cent, vanadium pentoxide up to 1 per cent, one or more of iron oxide (FeO), lime, magnesia, up to 7.5 per cent in aggregate. Preferably, the iron oxide and lime do not each exceed 3 per cent in the presennce of each other, and the magnesia does not exceed 2 per cent. A number of specific compositions are disclosed.
