781,632. Closures for resisting fluid pressure. A.C.F. INDUSTRIES, Inc. Aug. 30, 1955 [June 3, 1955], No. 24835/55. Class 123(1) A conical plug 18 for closing an outwardly-converging aperture 16 in a pressure vessel 12 is provided on its outer surface with lugs 38 engageable by a T- headed bolt 20 which passes through a round, cup-like yoke 22 arranged to bear against the outer rim of the aperture, the conical mating surfaces 34, 26 of the plug and aperture having respectively diametrically opposed flat surfaces 36 and part cylindrical surfaces 32 which allow the plug to be inserted sideways through the aperture from the outside of the vessel, as shown in Fig. 7. After this insertion, the surfaces 26, 34 are engaged, with the flat surfaces 36 displaced 90 degrees from the part-cylindrical surfaces 32, the bolt 20 is secured to the plug, the yolk 22 placed over the bolt and a nut 24 tightened thereon to draw the plug into the aperture. In a modification a gasket may be inserted between the plug and the aperture.
