Abstract
781,375. Packaging pulverulent materials. ST. REGIS PAPER CO. May 20, 1954 [May 21, 1953], No. 14871/54. Class 94(1). [Also in Group XXX] Pulverulent material is compressed before being fed into containers by directing a stream of it through a compression zone of extended length, controlling the depth of the stream and vibrating it so as to assist in the production of the desired compression and advancing it at a rate regulatable independently of its vibration to a filling machine. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the material flows down a shoot 2 inclined at an angle greater than its angle of repose to a filling machine 6. Distributers 1, 1a at the ends of the shoot are connected to it by resilient couplings 7. The shoot is vibrated by vibrators 3. In another construction, Fig. 2, material passes from a hopper 8 into a casing 2b provided with vibrators 3. A screw 10 conveys the material to the filling machine 6. Air escapes through a filter 13. In a further construction, Fig. 4, material is transported through the casing 2b by push plates 11 mounted on an endless belt 12.
