Abstract
964,288. Pneumatic conveyers; discharging. hoppers. FAWKHAM DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Dec. 18, 1962 [Feb. 16, 1962; Oct. 22, 1962], Nos. 6124/62 and 39910/62. Headings B8A and B8S. Material from shoot 13, Fig. 1, is fed into reactor 10 by the vibration of tray 16 effected by vibrating motor 21, and the feed is regulated by a detecting device 39 such that the height of material inside shoot 13 is sufficient to maintain a seal to withstand the difference of pressure between reactor 10 and shoot 13. Detector 39 has air passed continuously through it from source 42 and the pressure within is measured by gauge 44. When the material inside shoot 13 mounts so that it chokes the bottom of detector 39, the pressure within the detector rises and influences the gauge 44 to cause the vibrator 21 to come into action and to feed more material into reactor 10. Any material which falls from tray 16 over its edges is blown into the reactor by an air jet 36. In modifications the vibration frequency may be varied by the detector to control the rate of feed. The shoot 13 may itself be vibrated or the vibration tray 16 replaced by a belt or scraper conveyer controlled from the detector.
