781,063. Latch fastenings. TAYLOR, J. H. Sept. 24, 1954 [Sept. 26, 1953], No. 26546/53. Class 44 A latch comprises a latch bolt cranked to form a crank pin 1b and having a cylindrical shart or journal portion 1c rotatably mounted in corresponding bearing means 2, 3 adapted to be secured to a door or gate or its frame so that the shaft or journal portion is horizontal, while the crank pin is adapted to travel over the cam face of a cam faced latch plate 6 on the other member of the door or gate and frame assembly and to pass into a recess on the latch plate. The crank pin falls into the recess under the influence of gravity. The bearing means are brackets carried by a plate 4. A handle 5 may be provided on the portion 1c for raising the crank pin to unlatching position or alternatively the crank pin may be extended as indicated by broken lines. In a modification for doors or gates made of tubular members, the journal portion is journalled in a bush inserted into one of the horizontal door or gate members, a head on the inner end of the journal portion preventing the latch bolt being removed. In another modification the latch bolt has crank pins at both ends, and is intended for fastening a pair of doors or gates, the bolt being mounted on to a post between the doors or gates and each crank pin engaging a latch plate on a respective end of the door or gates. In a further modification, the latch plate is arranged with the recess underneath and in this case the bolt is provided with a handle arranged so that gravity acting on it tends to keep the crank pin in the recess in the latch plate.
