780,775. Hypodermic syringes. MACGREGOR INSTRUMENT CO. June 14, 1955, No. 17128/55. Class 81 (2). A hypodermic syringe comprises a cartridgereceiving body with a tip, the tip and the body having an axially disposed slot extending from the free end of the tip into that part of the body in which the cartridge-piercing end of a double-ended needle is to lie, a permanent magnet in the syringe to hold the needle in the slot and locking means on the tip to anchor the needle. The syringe has a body 10 which receives a medicament cartridge 15 having a puncturable seal 16. A sleeve 22 having an axially disposed slot 23 extending from end to end is threaded on the tip 11 of the syringe. The tip 11 and the body 10 are also provided with an axial slot 13 of sufficient depth to allow a double-ended needle 14 to be deposited therein coaxially of the cartridge 15 when the slots 13, 23 of the syringe and the sleeve 22 respectively are in register. A permanent magnet 25 embedded in the tip 11 laterally of the slot 13, holds the needle 14 in place while the sleeve 22 is rotated to clamp jaws 12 against the needle and to bring the slots 13, 23 out of register with one another. The needle 14, either end of which may be used to puncture the cartridge seal 16 and the body tissues respectively, is provided with indicia 20, 21 enabling the needle to be correctly located in the syringe slot 13.
