Abstract

780,702. Two-part couplings. LOW & SONS, Ltd., A. Nov. 20, 1953 [Nov. 21, 1952], No. 29425/52. Class 38 (1). A watertight plug and socket connector, particularly for use with welding equipment, is insulated by interengaging sleeves 11, 12 secured to plug and socket contacts 4, 5 by insulating pins 13, 14 respectively, e.g. of " Tufnol " (Registered Trade Mark), the ends of the pins 13A, 14A, being covered by resilient rings 16, 18 snapping into annular grooves 15, 17. A pin 8 in the socket contact 5 co-operates with an annular groove 9 and axial cut-away 10 in the end of plug contact 4 to interlock the contacts 4, 5. The plug is sealed against moisture by the ring 18 which is pressed tightly against the plug mouth, and an annular rib 19 of rectangular cross-section on the socket which is a force fit against the plug. The sleeve portions 11c, 12c resiliently grip the cables to prevent entry of moisture. Specification 780,703 is referred to.
