Abstract

779,946. Two-part couplings. CATOR, W. S. Sept. 14, 1955 [Sept. 17, 1954], No. 26968/54. Class 38 (1). In a multi-contact plug and socket coupling, each coupling part is provided with a predetermined arrangement of both pin and socket contacts to avoid connection of incorrect coupling parts. Each part comprises a two-part insulating body 4, 5 in which pins 2 and sockets 3 are captively held in recesses 9, 14. In this example, all the pins and two of the sockets in the part P are arranged vertically, and the remaining sockets are arranged horizontally, the co-operating contacts in the part S being complementarily arranged. The sockets are bent up from flat strip to form tails 3a and bifurcated blade-receiving portions 3b with bent-over ends, whilst the flat pins 2 have central Z-shaped anchoring portions 2c. A sheet of resilient material 18 is compressed between the body parts 4, 5 which are held together by spring clips embracing lateral lugs formed on the parts. As an additional means for preventing incorrect connections, one or more of the socket positions not required for connection purposes may be blanked off.
