779,362. Cooling sintered &c. material. DORMAN LONG (STEEL), Ltd. Aug. 2, 1955 [Aug. 13, 1954], No. 23643/54. Class 51 (2). In a stationary inclined grating for cooling sintered &c. material, the upper part 17 has an imperforate brick lining 19, and the lower part comprises I-beams 22 pivotally connected to brackets 35 on an intermediate wall 12, cross-members 25, and further horizontal I-beams 26 loosely clipped to the I- beams 22 and supporting a series of cast-iron plates 28 arranged in louvre fashion, cooling air being supplied to a plenum space below the grating by fans 42. The plenum space may be divided by partitions 44 formed with normally closed hatches 45, and each fan may be -independently controlled. Alternatively, a branched main may supply the cooling air, with or without control of each branch, or natural draught may be relied on to provide the air. Each plate comprises two overlapping shelves 28 forming an air slot 29, bosses 31 on which the next higher shelf rests providing further air slots, and longitudinal stiffening ribs 36 formed with a seating 37 engaging an I-beam 26 and a lug 38 holding the plate in position. The depth of sinter on the upper part 17 is controlled by adjustable baffle-plates 21. The cooled sinter is discharged through gates 13 on to an endless conveyer 14.
