Abstract

810,837. Supplying air to travelling grates. HODGKINSON (SALFORD) Ltd., J. March 12, 1957 [Dec. 13, 1955], No. 35732/55. Class 51 (1). The chamber below the upper run of a travelling grate is divided into compartments 16, 17 and air is fed to each compartment by a separate duct or ducts, 23, 24, which are adjacent each other at the feed end of the grate, separate fans 28, 29 in each duct and one or more adjustable means for controlling the quantity and pressure in one or each duct separately ensuring that the air pressures in the compartments are kept at different values. The fans 28, 29 may be driven from either a single motor 31 or separate motors. The compartment 16 is formed by a box-like structure 15 extending the full width of a box-like casing 10 between the runs of the grate, and ducts 23, 24 open at different levels through the sides of the casing 10. Dampers 31, 32 in the ducts 23, 24 respectively are independently adjustable to control the pressure in each compartment.
