Abstract
778,574. Centrifugal separators. BIRD MACHINE CO. March 13, 1956, No. 7874/56. Class 23 In a separator in which solid particles separated from a liquid are moved axially along the wall to an outlet 28 at the front end of the bowl 10 by a helical blade 16 rotating at a speed differing slightly from that of the bowl, at least one convolution of the blade has at least the rear surface inclined transversely to slope outwardly and rearwardly with respect to radii from the bowl axis. The liquid particle mixture is supplied by a pipe 32 to the interior of a drum 18 on which the blade is mounted, and passes out through one or more nozzles 36 into the space between the convolutions of the blade and adjacent the ends of helical vanes 40. The vanes are mounted in the space between the convolutions of the blade and guide the finer particles to outwardly directed channels formed in the rear surface of the blade facing the outlet 31 for liquid. Fixed scrapers or pivoted baffles 70 which may be plane or curved may be fitted radially outwards of the vanes. Fig. 12 shows a separator having blades 90, which extend radially, modified according to the invention, helical blades 92, 98 being fixed to the blades 90 and the helical vanes 96 respectively.
