Abstract

778,126. Road traffic signals on vehicles. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Nov. 29, 1955 [Dec. 4, 1954], No. 34169/55. Class 118 (2). Direction of turn indications on a motor vehicle are given by flashes from a front sidelight and one of the two rear stop-lights, the remaining stop-light being left connected to the usual brake switch. The turn indicator switch is provided with four stud contacts o<SP>1</SP> and o<SP>11</SP>, connected respectively to front side-lights a<SP>1</SP> and a<SP>11</SP>, and p<SP>1</SP> and p<SP>11</SP>, connected to rear stoplights b<SP>1</SP> and b<SP>11</SP>. Energization of the lights is through fuse d, flasher e, and line g leading to three-armed rotatable switch contact h which can be turned in either direction to cause two of the three arms to make contact with two studs to give an indication on one or the other side of the vehicle. Rotated with the contact h is a separate contact arm k fed through the brake switch f; this normally contacts both stop-light studs (as shown), but when turned only feeds the stop-light not giving the flashing signal. A pilot light n connected to the flasher may be incorporated and the switch may have a further set of contacts in another plane and controlled with the member h to energize direction indicators or direction arrows to supplement the flashing light signals.
