Abstract

824,887. Flashing direction indicators. DIRKS, F. July 23, 1957 [July 23, 1956; Aug. 28, 1956], No. 23241/57. Class 118 (2). A flasher unit for motor vehicles with a built-in clock, wherein the flash contacts are operated by a wheel of the mechanism of the clock. The make-and-break contacts may be used to flash direction indicating lights at the front and rear of the vehicle, the head lamps both left and right operating together for warning purposes, and the brake lamps, and in addition the horn to give warning, e.g. if the car is parked on a main road due to a breakdown. As shown, Fig. 1, the contacts 6 are opened by the rotation of wheel 4 of the clock. Current from the battery 7 flows via make-andbreak contacts 6 to wire 13 and thence to direction indicator switch 8 which can make contact with left turn indicators 9 and 10 or right turn indicators 11 and 12. Switch 14 connects the flashing current to brake lights 15 and 16 while switch 18 is for the brake pedal operated stop warning light. The head lamps are supplied from the battery via switch 23 which when connected to conductor 21 operates the dipped beam filaments 19a and 20a and when connected to the right-hand conductor 22 operates the normal beam filaments 19b and 20b. If the head-lamps are operating, the closure of switch 24 breaks contact 26, 27 and makes contact 26, 28, thereby ensuring the continuous flow of current to the dipped beam filaments 19a and 20a while current from make-and-break contacts 6 through switch 24 flows to conductor 22 and thence flashes the normal beam filaments 19b and 20b.
