Abstract
The method of the parent Specification (wherein a predetermined proportion of a low-viscosity liquid is added automatically and continuously to a stream of a viscous spinning solution by suction into a pipe through which a portion of the total flow of spinning solution is pumped by means of two gear pumps in tandem, the point of introduction being located between the pumps and the pump preceding this point having a smaller capacity than the one following the point of introduction) is improved in that the low-viscosity liquid is continuously injected into the central or axial portion of the stream of spinning solution flowing through the pipe and in the direction of flow of this stream. As shown in Fig. 2, a portion of the total flow of spinning solution <PICT:0777990/IV(a)/1> flows through the horizontal pipe 13 of a T-connection 6 and the low-viscosity liquid flows through the vertical pipe 18 of the T-connection and the curved nozzle 21, the outlet of which is coaxial with the horizontal pipe 13 and points in the direction of flow of the spinning solution through this pipe. The ends of the pipes 13, 18 are connected to the remainder of the spinning solution supply system and to the low-viscosity liquid supply system by the threaded collars 14, 15, 19 which engage the flanges 16, 17, 20 of the pipes 13, 18, the joints being sealed with gaskets in the usual manner. The T-connection 6 may be entirely of glass. The modification reduces the wear on the second or higher capacity pump.
