Abstract

776,849. Internal shoe-drum brakes. S.A.D.U.B. SOC. HOLDING DE VALEURS, BREVETS OU PROPRIETES. June 6, 1955 [March 5, 1955; March 21, 1955], No. 16226/55. Class 103 (1). Automatic shoe clearance adjustment mechanism for internal shoe-drum brakes comprises tubular members 22 and 22<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, pivoted upon a fixed central anchorage pin 24, leaf spring members 17, 17<SP>1</SP> within the tubular members being able to move outwardly as the shoes are spread but being prevented from inward movement by their flared ends 20 so that the shoes move back only sufficiently to take up the clearance 18a in the tube 14. In another embodiment, the member extending from the shoe anchorage has plane faces and is engaged to prevent inward movement by inwardly inclined blades extending from the tubular member. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 9 and 10, the blades 28, 281 and 28<SP>11</SP> are staggered and extend on one side of the tubular member only. In Fig. 11, an arrangement is shown in which the adjustment mechanisms 12a associated with each shoe 2a and 2b are connected to a pivoted lever 38 having connected thereto a feeler 45 which contacts the inner surface of the drum. Figs. 13 and 14 show an arrangement using bladed washers 36, 37 coacting with internally threaded tubular members 22.
