Abstract

774,904. Dispensing liquids by gaseous pressure. SPECIALITY VALVES, Ltd. March 29, 1955 [March 30, 1954], No. 9320/54. Class 102(2) [Alsa in Group XXIX] A container from which material under gaseous pressure can be dispensed is provided with a delivery valve comprising a tubular resilient grommet 21, Fig. 2, of, e.g. rubber, sealingly mounted in a hole 36 of a sheet metal cup 34 secured in the container and a delivery valve 10 made from, e.g. phenol-formaldehyde resin having a tubular stem 12 formed with a collar 18 so that the grommet is axially compressed between the collar and the valve head 11 to ensure a seal between the stem and the grommet and maintain the valve head in sealing engagement with the grommet. On compressing the grommet the stem is tilted to dispense fluid from the container. External screw threads 17 on the stem engage threads 44, Fig. 3, on a protecting cap 40 having a skirt 45 adapted to enclose the cup 34. A counterbore 48 in the cap receives the collar 18 whence the underside of the cap. engages the grommet to form a further seal when the cap is fully screwed on. In the Provisional Specification an embodiment is described in which the collar 18 is a loose ring secured to the stem by a split wire ring.
