Abstract

1,208,490. Collapsible containers. DIAMOND INTERNATIONAL CORP. 30 July, 1968 [14 Aug., 1967], No. 36268/68. Heading B8D. [Also in Division F1] In order to prevent removal of a closure member from a container without visible damage in order to prevent unauthorized refilling, the closure member is drawn on to the container by interengaging screw threads until an internal bead in the closure member is forced over an external bead on a neck of the container, whereafter the threads disengage and the closure member is urged downwardly by camming surfaces associated with the beads. As shown, a collapsible polyethylene container has a neck formed with a frusto-conical end portion 56a and a bead 56, and a closure cap 20 has an internal bead 58 and an annular rigid stopper member 66 snugly received in the mouth 14 of the neck. The cap and neck have multistart threads whereby the cap can be drawn on to the neck until the crests of the beads have passed each other, whereupon the threads disengage and the neck bead 56 engages a conical surface 58b of the cap, so that the cap is urged downwardly to axially separate the threads. The dimensions are such that the neck is still radially compressed after the beads have snapped past each other, so that the neck is pressed into sealing engagement with the cap at 16 and, due to the conical shape of the neck, the mouth is contracted to seal against the stopper 66. A rigid casing permitting ingress of air is connectible to the cap for supporting the collapsible container, and a dispensing pump-plunger is positioned within the stopper 66.
