Abstract

774,536. Door fastenings; wedge fastenings. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 29, 1955 [April 30 1954], No. 12596/54. Class 44. [Also in Group X] A door 2 mounted on hinges 3 to close an opening in a cubicle for truck-type switchgear is movable vertically on its hinges so that it can be raised for opening and lowered bodily for locking, in the closed position by mechanism comprising a rod 7, which is slidable vertically in guides 8, 9 secured to the inner face of the door, and which carries, at its lower end, a wheel 10, the upper end of the rod 7 being connected by a toggle linkage 11 to a fixed pivot 12 on the door, and the linkage 11 being connected by a bar 13 to a lever 14 which is rotatable by a handle, not shown. When the handle is rotated clockwise the lever 14 moves the bar 13, thus lengthening the toggle linkage 11 and causing the wheel 10 to bear upon the floor and the door to be lifted on its hinges 3 so that it can be opened. When the door, having been closed, is lowered by rotating the handle anticlockwise wedges 16, on the front face of the cubicle, engage corresponding wedges 17 attached to the adjacent edge of the door to lock, and at the same time impart a closing movement to the door. Each wedge 16 has teeth for adjustable engagement with corresponding teeth on a plate 19 which is secured by pins 20 to the cubicle 1, the wedge 16 being secured to the cubicle 1 and by a bolt 21 passing through corresponding vertical slots in the plate 19 and the cubicle.
