Abstract
773,126. Crop sprayers. JONES, S. H. Sept. 19, 1955 [Nov. 19, 1954], No. 26716/55. Class 69 (3). Liquid insecticide &c. from a barrel 14, mounted on a framework 15 secured to the rear of a tractor, is fed through a tap 24 on to a rotor 1 mounted on a shaft 2 and driven at high speed from the tractor power take-off 8. The rotor is dish-shaped with concave vanes 9 extending over the edge of the rotor. The centre line of each vane is tangential to a circle 11, Fig. 2, and the concave surface of each vane faces the direction of rotation. An inwardly bent tip 9a at the outer end of each vane assists the dispersion. To prevent forwardly directed spray reaching the tractor, especially when commencing spraying operations, a conical shield 33 is provided which delivers forwardly directed spray to a second vaned rotor 35 mounted on the rotor shaft. A universally mounted spout may be fitted to the tap 24 so that the position of liquid impingement on the rotor may be varied. A lever regulates discharge from the tap and is controlled from the driver's seat by a rod 26. A float valve in the barrel, or in a smaller container adjacent the barrel, may control the tap valve so that discharge is controlled in accordance with the height of liquid in the barrel. The latter may feed two vaned rotors driven in opposite directions.
