Abstract
772,409. Pipe joints. HUTCHESON, W. W. and BENNETT SONS & SHEARS, Ltd. Oct. 25, 1955, No. 30471/55. Class 99(1) A pipe joint for the pipe-coil of an evaporator comprises two pipes 1; 2, located one within the other and either cast together as one unit or preformed separately and thereafter permanently secured together e.g. by brazing at 6, and one end of the pipe 1 is formed into an arbour 3 the axis of the outer end of which is parallel to the axis of a side aperture 5 in the pipe 2, the inner ends of the pipes 1, 2, being adapted for connection to separate apertures 10, 15, of the evaporator plant. The elbow 3 and aperture 5 are connected by brazing at 7 to the intake and return ends of a pipe , coil through which steam is passed for evaporation of lime in the plant, the steam entering through the pipe 1 from a supply manifold and returning through pipe 2 to an exhaust manifold 11. The pipe 1 is screwed into a sealing unit 14 on a cover plate 12 of the manifold 11 and holds the end of pipe 2 against a washer 10 in an aperture 9 in the wall 8 of the plant.
