Abstract

766,124. Sag-carriers for overhead cable hoists. POHLIG AKT.-GES., J. March 1, 1954 [March 16, 1953], No. 5870/54. Class 78 (4). A sag carrier for an aerial cableway is driven along the main cable 25 by a driving rope 7a which is reeved to drive pulleys 1, 2 which in turn drive pulleys 3, 4, Fig. 2, around which is reeved a rope 7b, Fig. 1, which is held stationary or moved in the opposite direction from the rope 7a. The sag carrier is employed in a system in which a number of carriers are moved by the same ropes 7a, 7b at speeds such that they always divide the distance between the load carriage and the adjacent terminal in the same proportions. The proper speeds may be provided by varying the diameters of the sheaves 1, 2, 3, 4 or by varying the ratio of gearing between the sheaves on one side of the carriage and those on the other. In the arrangement of Figs. 1 and 2 gears 31, 32, 33 and 34, 35, 36 join the sheaves on each side of the carriage and the drive from the sheaves on one side to those on the other is through a clutch 15 which may be declutched by cams 38, Fig. 1, operated by buffers 16 when the trolleys come into contact with one another. Each trolley is supported on the track 25 by rollers 30 and counter-rollers 24. The ropes 7a, 7b may comprise the two runs of an endless rope secured to move with the load carrier or separately driven, or the ropes 7a may be an independent endless rope while the rope 7b is a fixed rope or an endless rope driven in the opposite direction from the rope 7a. The pairs of sheaves 1, 2 and 3, 4 may be replaced by a single sheave on each side of the trolley and the ropes 7a, 7b may be reeved around these and around idler pulleys. The drive between the sheaves on opposite sides of the trolleys may include an epicyclic gear in which an annulus is carried by one sheave, a crown-wheel by the shaft of the sheave on the opposite side of the trolley, and the planet pinions by the frame of the trolley. The ropes passing to the load carrier are supported by suitable pulleys such as 43, 44, 45 on the trolleys and these pulleys may be carried by a lower portion 10b of the trolley which can be replaced by other lower portions to suit the cableway on which the trolley is to be used. The trolley of Figs. 1 and 2 is shown as provided with handles 22 and lifting eye 21.
