Abstract
422,222. Overhead travellers; pulleyhoists. SPENCE, W. L., 35, Kenilworth Road, Leamington, Warwickshire. Aug. 8, 1933, No. 22152. [Classes 78 (iv) and 78 (v)] [See also Groups XXXI and XXXII] A rope &c., lifting gear comprises two winding-drums 1, 13, geared together by mechanism contained in a gear-box 14, and a six-fall pulley block. The rope 2 from the drum 1 passes round a pulley 3 on the block, up over a pulley 5 on the drum shaft, down round an equalizing pulley on the block, and over a second pulley 9 on the drum shaft, finally reaching the drum 13 by way of a third pulley 11 on the block. The arrangement gives four falls on one side of the pulleys 5, 9, and two falls on the other side, necessitating off-setting the load hook to one side of the block centre. The pulleys 5, 9 are preferably mounted on rollers &c., running round the bearing housings of the drum shaft. Traversing means for the lifting-gear comprises a track 21 surrounded by an endless roller chain driven by a sprocket wheel 22 on a motor-driven shaft 23. The rollers of the chain are enlarged to run on a girder flange 19. The track 21 is attached to suspension links surrounding the drum shaft between the drum 1 and pulley 5 and drum 13 and pulley 9 respectively.
