A button fastener of the kind comprising a two-legged staple 3 with legs which are insertec through the two hole: of a button 1, througt the fabric 2 of a garment, and through twc holes in a back-plate or counter-button 5 provided with radial grooves 6 on its underside into which the end portions of the legs of the staple are bent before the projecting parts 4 thereof are broken off by further bending at notches 7 provided at appropriate parts thereof, is characterized in that at the outer end of each radial groove 6 of the counterbutton 5 a second groove is provided substantially at right-angles to it and into which the remaining ends of the legs are bent. In the example a single diametral groove 6 is provided instead of a radial groove extending outwardly from each hole through the counterbutton 5. Fig. 3 shows a completed fastening. A spacing collar surrounding both legs of the staple may be interposed between the bottom of the button and the fabric to which it is to be secured, the material of the collar being either hard or resilient according to requirements.
