Abstract

762,186. Drilling. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 17, 1953 [Sept. 17, 1952], No. 25732/53. Class 83 (3). A device for cutting a circular opening in material 1 having a hard frangible coating 2, comprises a first rotatable cutter 14 to cut a V-shaped groove 29 through the coating and a second rotatable cutter 23 of slightly less diameter to cut through the material from the opposite side. The detachable-cutter 14 is of tungsten-carbide and is rotated by a handle 15 in a bearing 10 secured in a cap 8 screwed onto the waste-outlet 5 in the domestic sink 1. When a groove has been cut through the coating, the cutter 14 is removed and is replaced by the saw-blade cutter 23 on a holder 21 keyed to a shaft 16. The shaft 16 is rotated by power and the cutter 23 is fed by a spring 26 to cut a hole through the sink.
