Class 60 A machine for abrading shoe parts, particularly crepe rubber soles, comprises a worktable 1, an abrasive tool 3 including an endless abrasive band and projecting above the work table surface, and an endless rubber feed band 5 running over a driven resilient feed roll 7 rotatably mounted in a frame 9 pivoted on a pair of eccentric bushes 11; the feed roll, through the medium of the feed band, presses a workpiece against and feeds it past the abrasive tool, all as described in Specification 710,905. The feed roll shaft 15 carries a composite cam 17,19, the part 17 being fixed on the shaft and the part 19 being adjustable around the shaft and secured in adjusted position relative to part 17 by a screw 23 threaded into part 19 and engaging a selected one of a series of detents 25 in part 17. The cam 17, 19 co-operates with a cam roll 27, so that the feed roll, as it rotates, is lifted away from the abrasive tool before the trailing end portion of the sole has been abraded so enabling the operator to withdraw the sole and turn it end for end before again feeding it into the machine. The cam roll 27 is carried by a swinging bracket, 29 pivoted by pin 31 on a bracket 33 adjustably mounted on the work ta,ble by screws 35 passing through slots 37 in the bracket. The bracket 29 can be swung about pin 31 to an inoperative position; in the operative position, a face on the swinging bracket 29 engages a complementary face on the bracket 33, and the bracket 29 is locked in position by a screw 41. The bracket 33 is provided with a latching portion. The feed band 5 may be omitted.
