759,351. Angular bending. HUET, A. Feb. 12, 1952 [Feb. 13, 1951], No. 3683/52. Class 83 (4). A method of bending a straight tube consists in winding said tube over a bending roller having a semi-elliptical, semi-'oval or parabolic groove whilst heating that part of the tube that will, after bending, form the internal portion of the bend, so that a heated. semi-circular portion of the tube may spread out during bending to avoid increasing the thickness of the tube wall at the interior of the bend. Apparatus for carrying out the invention comprises the bending roller K, two rollers t for pressing the tube j into the groove of the roller K, a blow lamp O for heating the region A of the tube prior to bending and an arm or yoke K<SP>1</SP> attached to the roller K for gripping the tube. The bending is effected by rotation of the roller K. The semielliptical groove of the roller K allows, during bending, the diameter CC of the tube to increase by expanding into the groove and this prevents increase in thickness of the tube at the inside portion of the bend. The ends of the bend may be tapered to facilitate joining to straight tubes of circular section. Specification 678,002 is referred to.
