Abstract
758,955. Gill boxes; sliver conductors. MACKIE & SONS, Ltd., J. Feb. 11, 1955 [March 15, 1954], No. 7481/54. Class 120 (1). A gill-drawing frame has a conductor or guide forming a passageway closed at both top and bottom and extending from a pair of intaking rollers to a point immediately adjacent the rear of the faller bed so that sliver introduced to the roller nip is automatically fed into the path of the rising fallers. Instead of a three-roller intake arrangement of the conventional kind, a jockey roller 3 may rest on' a driven roller 1 and against an additional roller 4, with another driven roller 2 spaced from the roller 1. Sliver passes through a guiding-in conductor 8, which is flared but open at the top, and through the nip of rollers 1, 2 to be guided towards the fallers 5 by plates 10, 12 separated by washers 13. The roller 2 assists the feed of the free end of a newly entered sliver. Where only two intaking rollers are provided, the top plate 12 extends almost to the fallers.
