Abstract

756,737. Building frameworks. HOLLAND & HANNEN & CUBITTS, Ltd., and SANDERS, R. May 3, 1954 [May 1, 1953], No. 12081/53. Class 20(1) and 20(4). A method of constructing a building framework comprises assembling preformed frame elements of substantially U-shape having two parallel portions 2 interconnected at one end by a portion 1 (or 1a), the portions 1 being at the bottom of the elements, and the portions 2 being vertical and abutting adjacent portions 1 to form columns. The elements are of pre-cast reinforced concrete and have two foot portions 3. The elements are arranged longitudinally and transversely of the building, the portions 2 being chamfered at 4 to enable adjacent portions 2 to nest together. If the adjacent portions 2 are to be temporarily secured together, transverse bolts may be used, or for permanent fixing, grout or concrete may be filled in the space 5, where four portions 2 abut. The elements are likewise superimposed, and may be connected temporarily by plates 16 secured by nuts over bolts 15 cast in the portions 3 and the top of the portions 2 respectively, Fig. 4. A permanent connection, Fig. 3, is formed by introducing grout under pressure through passages 10, 11 into an inverted recess 9 in each portion 3 into which protrudes a dowel 12 fixed in the upper end of the adjacent portion 2.
