Abstract

756,355. Feeding webs; collapsible rollers. BOWATERS DEVELOPMENT & RESEARCH, Ltd. July 2, 1954 [July 14, 1953], No. 19563/53. Class 100 (1). [Also in Group VIII] A winding mandrel having a longitudinal suction box under a slot in its surface for anchoring the leading portion of sheet material to be wound on the mandrel is characterized by an apertured pad of deformable material fitting into the suction box. The mandrel is carried on a shaft 1 and is provided with a pipe 3 communicating with the suction box 2 and with a vacuum pump. A rubber pad 6 the outer surface 7 of which stands proud of the surface of the mandrel is fitted into the suction box 2. The pad 6 is provided with suction holes 8 in its outer surface and is recessed as at 9 to, provide communication with the pipe 3. The pad is supported by legs 10, 11. The holes 8 may be provided in grooves formed in the pad 6 and running parallel to the axis of the mandrel. Specifications 756,354, [Group XXVIII], 756,356, [Group VIII], and 756,357 are referred to.
