Abstract

1356169 Splicing webs RENGO KK 7 Oct 1971 [20 March 1971] 46812/71 Heading B8R In apparatus for splicing a replacement web 12<SP>1</SP> to an exhausting web 12, the adhesively prepared leading end of the web 12<SP>1</SP> is held ready in a standby position on a sustion box 16 over which run conveyer belts (31, 32), Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown); when the diameter of working web roll has reached a predetermined minimum value, as detected by suitable sensors such as limit switches, the conveyer belts are actuated to forward the web 12<SP>1</SP> to the nip between rollers 43, 45 which splice the web 12<SP>1</SP> to the web 12; a cutter (104), Fig. 4 (not shown), is then operated to sever the old web, and the exhausted web roll can be removed from its holder 11 to be replaced by a fresh standby roll, the leading end of which can be positioned on a second suction box 16 in readiness for the next splicing operation.
