Abstract

1,185,448. Winding webs. VALMET OY. 19 June, 1968 [20 June, 1967]. No. 29094/68. Heading B8R. In a web-winding machine, a web-roll spindle 1 is pressed against a drum 2, which drum has a hollow perforated portion (5, Fig. 2) pierced by holes distributed over its entire surface, the axial length of the portion being substantially less than, and preferably between 5% and 25% of, the axial length of the drum 2. When the leading end of a web is introduced to the nip between the spindle 1 and the drum 2, suction is applied to the box 6 and air under pressure is applied to the box 7.
