A porous filler mass for gas storage containers is obtained from a slurry comprising, in parts by weight; lime 10, water 67 to 187, mineral fibre 1 to 10, silica-consisting of 50 to 60 per cent of finely powdered highly reactive silica the remainder being ground crystalline silica of -0.074 mm. size-10 to 15, and 1.8 to 6.5 of magnesium hydroxide, basic magnesium carbonate, bentonite, aluminium sulphate, sodium aluminate or aluminium hydroxide.
