Abstract
1,202,511. Zeolite L. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 2 Jan., 1969 [5 Jan., 1968], No. 176/69. Heading C1A. Zeolite L is prepared by forming a reaction mixture from water and sources of aluminium, silicon, potassium and optionally sodium, such that the composition expressed in terms of mole ratios of oxides falls within the following ranges: the source of at least 80 mol. per cent of the silicon in the mixture being a reactive amorphous solid silica, and thereafter heating the mixture at 100‹ to 200‹ C. until crystals of Zeolite L are formed. The mole ratios of the oxides are preferably selected such that the ratio H 2 O/(K 2 O + Na 2 O + SiO 2 + Al 2 O 3 ) is between 2 and 6, the consistency of the reactants ranging from a moist powder to a very stiff paste. Alumina trihydrate is the preferred source of aluminium, other sources being activated alumina, gamma alumina, alpha alumina and potassium aluminate. Sodium and potassium are preferably added in the form of their hydroxides.
